What can we do after enduring hardship, collectively and personally, but to hold court aromatically to counter the feelings of deep grief present? Pain has become the signature of our cultural Zeitgeist, and it is hard to move forward creatively without acknowledging it, or even reveling in it. 𝔏𝔞𝔠𝔥𝔯𝔶𝔪𝔞𝔯𝔲𝔪 (10ml roller, jojoba base) Originally part of the Suspiria “3 Mothers” trio, this funerary perfume takes a cue from classical Italian blends, but with a sinister twist. Tears of myrrh dripping off urns, enveloped with the strange, sweet smell of anise and poplar. Shadows of opopanax and vanilla benzoin haunt, and clove absolute numbs. A hint of date absolute and rose sweeten and bring hope. The perfect perfume for the most powerful of witches, and finding beauty when in despair.

𝔉𝔩𝔬𝔯𝔞𝔩 𝔊𝔬𝔱𝔥 (10ml roller, jojoba base) If there were two things Victorians were most obsessed with, it is death and flowers. Private greenhouses full of exotic plants served as a status symbol for those who could afford the most unique botanicals. centered around a fantasy accord of black batflower (Tacca chantrieri), a tropical blossom resembling the face or wings of a vampire bat. Velvety shades of black, purple and green, as well as the damp greenhouse soil make a shadowy appearance at the heart of this fragrance, alongside nocturnal jasmine jam and strong black tea. The story opens with a wooden pencil scrawling out a vintage valentine, with more modern notes of nag champa and Djarum black, which ends on a base of deep aged patchouli and nagarmotha. In voudon, his iconography is used to represent the loa Gran bwa (“Big Tree”), and his status as a patron saint to the the LGBT community may have roots in Derek Jarman’s film Sebastiane (but unofficially in the hearts and minds of all those who gazed upon him in Catholic school). Perhaps no other Saint has enjoyed such cult allure for artists, and so too, our hat is thrown into the ring.
